Zero and first conditional
Zero ve first conditional gerçek koşul cümleleridir: biri her zaman olan sonucu, diğeri gelecekte olabilecek tek bir durumu anlatır. Bu sayfada iki yapının farkını, if ile when ayrımını ve if'ten sonra will kullanma hatasını çalışır, ardından oyunda pratik yaparsın.
Hızlı Öğren
Zero conditional her seferinde aynı olan sonucu, first conditional ise gelecekteki belirli bir durumun olası sonucunu anlatır.
Aklında tut
- Zero conditional iki kısımda da present simple kullanır: if you press the button, the bell rings.
- First conditional if'ten sonra present simple, sonuçta will kullanır: if you help me, I will help you.
- Zero conditional'da if yerine when kullanılabilir, çünkü sonuç her seferinde aynıdır.
Örnekler
- 1If you mix blue and yellow paint together, you get green paint every time.
- 2If the airline tickets are affordable next week, we will book our summer flight.
Kaçınılması Gereken Yaygın Tuzak
Anlam gelecek olsa da if'ten sonra will gelmez: if the train arrives on time doğru, if the train will arrive yanlış.

Gerçek koşullar
Zero ve first conditional gerçek koşul cümleleridir: ikisi de hayali değil, gerçekten olan ya da olabilecek durumlardan söz eder. Ama farklı işler görürler.
Zero conditional
Zero conditional, koşul her gerçekleştiğinde kaçınılmaz olarak ortaya çıkan sonucu anlatır: doğa yasaları, makinelerin çalışma biçimi, kişisel alışkanlıklar. Yapı: If ya da When + present simple, present simple. If water reaches zero degrees, it freezes. If you press this button, the green light comes on. Sonuç her seferinde aynı olduğu için if yerine when kullanmak anlamı değiştirmez: When it rains, the grass gets wet.
First conditional
First conditional ise gelecekteki tek ve belirli bir durumu anlatır. Koşul gerçekçidir ve gerçekleşirse sonucu da muhtemeldir. Yapı: If + present simple, will, can ya da might + yalın fiil. If it rains tomorrow afternoon, we will cancel the match. Türkçede “Yarın yağmur yağarsa” derken “-rsa” ekini gelecek anlamıyla kullanırız; İngilizcede ise if'ten sonra will gelmez, present simple kullanılır.
If ile when
First conditional'da if ile when aynı şey değildir: when olayın kesin olacağını varsayar (When the train arrives, I'll call you, tren nasılsa gelecek), if ise olup olmayacağının belli olmadığını söyler (If the train is late, I'll take a taxi).

How to read this B1 topic
At B1, grammar links ideas: condition, result, reported meaning, experience, and narrative order.
1. Name the relationship
Ask whether the sentence gives a condition, contrast, cause, report, or result.
If it rains, we will stay home.
2. Separate time from aspect
Finished event, visible result, duration, and background action use different forms.
I had left before she arrived.
3. Test both clauses
In complex sentences, the second half often proves the first half.
I wish I knew.
Conditional patterns
Read both halves. The result clause often tells you which condition pattern is needed.
| Meaning | If-clause | Result clause | Example |
|---|---|---|---|
| general truth | present simple | present simple | If water freezes, it expands. |
| real future | present simple | will + base verb | If it rains, we will stay. |
| imaginary present | past simple | would + base verb | If I knew, I would tell you. |
| imaginary past | past perfect | would have + participle | If I had known, I would have called. |
Contrasts that often decide the answer
Event or background
Simple forms move events forward; continuous forms show an action in progress.
I left while she was talking.
Fact or stance
Modals, hedges, and reporting structures show how certain or responsible the speaker sounds.
This may indicate a problem.
Clause or compressed phrase
Advanced writing often compresses full clauses into participle, noun, or prepositional phrases.
Having reviewed the data, we revised the plan.

İstisnalar
First conditional'ın sonuç kısmında will tek seçenek değildir; başka modal fiiller farklı derecelerde kesinlik bildirir. Can izin ya da imkân bildirir (If you finish early, you can leave), might ve may olasılık bildirir (If it rains, we might stay home), should öğüt verir (If you feel ill, you should rest). Sonuç kısmı emir cümlesi de olabilir: If you see Anna, tell her to call me.
