  • if + had + participle, sonra would have + participle.
  • Sonuç belirsizse would have yerine could have ve might have gelir.

Örnekler

  1. 1If we had left the house ten minutes earlier, we would have caught the train.
  2. 2She would have passed her driving examination if she had practiced parking more.

Kaçınılması Gereken Yaygın Tuzak

would have asla if'li cümlede yer almaz. If I would have known konuşmada sık yapılan bir kayma ve yazıda hâlâ yanlıştır.

Kural

  2. Had + üçüncü hâl, would have

Yapı: If + had + üçüncü hâl (past perfect), would have + üçüncü hâl. If I had studied harder, I would have passed the exam; gerçekte çok çalışmadım ve geçemedim. If we had taken a taxi, we wouldn't have missed our flight; gerçekte taksiye binmedik ve uçağı kaçırdık.

  3. Kısaltmalar

Konuşmada ve günlük yazıda had 'd, have de 've olarak kısaltılır: If I'd known you were in hospital, I'd have visited you. Buradaki iki 'd farklı kelimelerdir: ilki had, ikincisi would.

  4. Could have ve might have

Sonuç kısmında would have yerine could have (geçmişte yapılabilecek olanı) ya da might have (olası sonucu) kullanılabilir: If the goalkeeper had reacted faster, he could have saved it. If you had invited Sarah, she might have come.

How to read this B1 topic

At B1, grammar links ideas: condition, result, reported meaning, experience, and narrative order.

1. Name the relationship

Ask whether the sentence gives a condition, contrast, cause, report, or result.

If it rains, we will stay home.

2. Separate time from aspect

Finished event, visible result, duration, and background action use different forms.

I had left before she arrived.

3. Test both clauses

In complex sentences, the second half often proves the first half.

I wish I knew.

Conditional patterns

Read both halves. The result clause often tells you which condition pattern is needed.

Contrasts that often decide the answer

Event or background

Simple forms move events forward; continuous forms show an action in progress.

I left while she was talking.

Fact or stance

Modals, hedges, and reporting structures show how certain or responsible the speaker sounds.

This may indicate a problem.

Clause or compressed phrase

Advanced writing often compresses full clauses into participle, noun, or prepositional phrases.

Having reviewed the data, we revised the plan.

  10. 10What would you have done if you had won that international architecture competition?

If I had won the lottery last year, I would be rich today. Koşul third conditional'dan, sonuç second conditional'dan gelir. If'li kısımda would have asla kullanılmaz; konuşmada sık duyulan If I would have known biçimi yazıda ve sınavlarda yanlış kabul edilir.

Sık yapılan hatalar

  • If'li kısma would have koymak

    Hata

If I would have seen you, I would have waved.

    Doğru

If I had seen you, I would have waved.

  • Sonuç kısmında have'i unutmak

    Hata

    I would caught the train.

    Doğru

I would have caught the train.

  • Geçmiş bir olay için second conditional kullanmak

    Hata

If you told me, I would come.

    Doğru

If you had told me, I would have come.
