Quantifiers with countable and uncountable nouns

Many, much, a few, a little ve a lot of gibi miktar kelimeleri (quantifiers), ismin sayılabilir olup olmadığına göre seçilir. Bu sayfada hangi kelimenin hangi isimle kullanıldığını ve a few ile few arasındaki anlam farkını çalışır, ardından oyunda pratik yaparsın.

Hızlı Öğren

Miktar kelimeleri bir şeyin ne kadar ya da kaç tane olduğunu söyler; doğru kelime ismin sayılabilir olup olmamasına göre seçilir.

Aklında tut

  • Sayılabilen isimlerle a few, few ve many kullanılır: a few friends, many cars.
  • Sayılamayan isimlerle a little, little ve much kullanılır: a little milk, much time.
  • A lot of her iki türle de gelir ve olumlu cümlede en doğal seçimdir.

Örnekler

  1. 1Fortunately, we still have a little milk left to make morning coffee.
  2. 2There are only a few empty seats remaining in the front auditorium.

Kaçınılması Gereken Yaygın Tuzak

Küçük a anlamı değiştirir: a few ve a little “az ama yeterli”, few ve little ise “neredeyse hiç” demektir.

Derinlemesine İncele

Kural

  1. Önce ismin türüne bak

Miktar belirten kelimeler (quantifiers) ismin önüne gelir ve ne kadar ya da kaç tane olduğunu söyler. Doğru kelimeyi seçmek için önce ismin sayılabilir mi sayılamaz mı olduğuna bakılır.

  2. Sayılabilen isimlerle

    (1) Yalnızca sayılabilen isimlerle: many, olumsuz cümlede ve soruda “çok” anlamı verir (Are there many apples? There aren't many cars). A few “birkaç, az ama yeterli” demektir ve olumlu bir tonu vardır (I have a few good friends here). Few ise a olmadan “çok az, neredeyse hiç” anlamına gelir ve olumsuz bir ton taşır (He has few friends and often feels lonely). Several “birkaç, ikiden fazla ama çok değil” demektir.

  3. Sayılamayan isimlerle

    (2) Yalnızca sayılamayan isimlerle: much, olumsuz cümlede ve soruda “çok” anlamı verir (We don't have much time. Is there much milk left?). A little “biraz, yeterli” demektir (There is a little milk left), little ise “çok az, yetersiz” (We have little water left).

  4. Her iki türle de

    (3) Her iki türle de: a lot of ve lots of olumlu cümlede “çok” anlamında en doğal seçimdir (a lot of books, a lot of sugar). Some olumlu cümlede, any ise olumsuz cümlede ve soruda kullanılır.

How to read this A2 topic

At A2, the challenge is choosing between similar time frames, pronouns, and quantity patterns.

1. Look for the time clue

Yesterday, now, every day, already, and since often decide the tense.

I watched it yesterday.

2. Choose the pattern first

Pick the whole grammar structure before choosing the final word.

I am going to study.

3. Check word position

Adverbs, objects, and pronouns must sit in natural English order.

I know him well.

Articles and quantity

English articles depend on countability, specificity, and whether the listener can identify the noun.

MeaningCount singularCount pluralUncountable
first mentiona booksome bookssome water
known / specificthe bookthe booksthe water
generala tiger / the tigertigerswater
negative quantityno book / not a bookno books / not any booksno water / not any water

Decision path before answering

Use these checks before choosing between close options.

  1. 1Mark the subject, main verb, object, and any connector.
  2. 2Underline the time expression or discourse clue.
  3. 3Reject any option with the wrong agreement, tense, article, pronoun case, or word order.
  4. 4Read the whole sentence once more for naturalness and register.

Örnekler

  1. 1Fortunately, we still have a little milk left to make morning coffee.
  2. 2There are only a few empty seats remaining in the front auditorium.
  3. 3Regrettably, there is little hope of finishing the project before dark.

İstisnalar

Küçük a harfi anlamı tamamen değiştirir. A few ve a little olumludur: az ama işe yarar bir miktar vardır (I have a little money, so I can buy lunch). Few ve little ise olumsuzdur: neredeyse hiç yoktur (I have little money, so I can't buy lunch). Türkçedeki “biraz param var” ile “param pek yok” farkı buna karşılık gelir.

Sık yapılan hatalar

  • Olumlu anlamda a'yı unutmak
