Present continuous

Present continuous (şimdiki zaman), tam şu an sürmekte olan, bu günlerde devam eden ya da geleceğe planlanmış eylemleri anlatır. Burada be + -ing yapısını, zaman zarflarını ve durum fiilleriyle ilgili tuzağı çalışırsın.

Present continuous bitmemiş olan için kullanılır: şu an olan, bu sıralar olan ya da gelecek için şimdiden ayarlanmış olan.

Aklında tut

  • be + fiilin -ing hâli; kişiye ve sayıya göre değişen kısım be'dir.
  • now, at the moment, currently ve this week bu zamanı işaret eder.
  • Ayarlanmış bir gelecek için de kullanılır: I am meeting her on Friday.

Kaçınılması Gereken Yaygın Tuzak

Durum fiilleri -ing almaz. Anlam açıkça 'şu an' olsa bile I am knowing ve I am wanting ana dili İngilizce olan birine yanlış gelir.

Kural

  1. Şu an ve bugünlerde

    Present continuous, tam konuştuğumuz anda süren eylemleri ya da bugünlerde devam eden geçici durumları anlatır. Türkçedeki -iyor'lu şimdiki zamana benzer, ama Türkçede -iyor'un karşıladığı alışkanlıklar ve kalıcı durumlar İngilizcede present simple ile söylenir.

  2. Yapı ve -ing yazımı

    Yapı: özne + am, is ya da are + fiil-ing. -ing yazım kuralları:

    (1) okunmayan -e ile biten fiillerde e düşer (write → writing, make → making);

    (2) tek heceli, kısa ünlü ve tek ünsüzle biten fiillerde son ünsüz ikilenir (sit → sitting, run → running, swim → swimming);

    (3) iki heceli fiillerde ünsüz yalnızca vurgu ikinci hecedeyse ikilenir (begin → beginning, ama visit → visiting);

    (4) -ie ile bitenlerde ie, y olur (lie → lying, die → dying).

  3. Olumsuz ve soru

    Olumsuzda not be'den sonra gelir: I am not working today, She isn't listening. Soruda be öne geçer: Are you listening to me? What is he cooking?

  4. Zaman ifadeleri

    Right now, at the moment, currently, today, this week ve Look! ya da Listen! gibi ifadeler bu zamanla sık kullanılır.

At A2, the challenge is choosing between similar time frames, pronouns, and quantity patterns.

1. Look for the time clue

Yesterday, now, every day, already, and since often decide the tense.

I watched it yesterday.

2. Choose the pattern first

Pick the whole grammar structure before choosing the final word.

I am going to study.

3. Check word position

Adverbs, objects, and pronouns must sit in natural English order.

I know him well.

Present continuous

Use be + -ing for actions happening now or around now, not for most stative verbs.

Decision path before answering

Use these checks before choosing between close options.

  1. 1Mark the subject, main verb, object, and any connector.
  2. 2Underline the time expression or discourse clue.
  3. 3Reject any option with the wrong agreement, tense, article, pronoun case, or word order.
  4. 4Read the whole sentence once more for naturalness and register.

İstisnalar

Like, love, hate, want, need, know, believe, understand, remember, own ve belong gibi durum fiilleri normalde continuous biçimde kullanılmaz: I understand the rule denir, I am understanding the rule denmez. Türkçede “anlıyorum” ve “istiyorum” dediğimiz için bu hata Türk öğrencilerde çok sık görülür. Bazı fiillerin iki anlamı vardır: sahiplik bildiren have durum fiilidir (I have two cats), ama bir etkinlik bildiren have continuous olabilir (I am having lunch right now).
