Modals of deduction: must, might, can't

Modals of present deduction, ipuçlarına bakarak şu anki bir durum hakkında tahmin yürütmeyi sağlar: “evde olmalı”, “o olamaz”, “yağmur yağabilir” gibi. Bu sayfada must, can't, might ve could farkını ve must not tuzağını çalışır, ardından oyunda pratik yaparsın.

Hızlı Öğren

Must, can't, might ve could, şu anki bir durum hakkında ne kadar emin olduğunu gösterir; seçimi eldeki kanıt belirler.

Aklında tut

  • Must neredeyse kesin olumlu tahmindir: the lights are on, someone must be inside.
  • Can't neredeyse kesin imkânsızlıktır: she can't be thirty, she looks eighteen.
  • Might, may ve could gerçek bir ihtimaldir: take an umbrella, it might rain.

Örnekler

  1. 1The office lights are on and his bicycle is parked outside; David must be inside.
  2. 2That luxury sports car can't belong to a high school student; it costs a fortune.

Kaçınılması Gereken Yaygın Tuzak

İmkânsızlık için must not kullanma: it can't be true doğru, it must not be true yanlış. Must not tahmin değil yasak bildirir.

Derinlemesine İncele

Kural

  2. Must: neredeyse kesin

    (1) Must: neredeyse kesin olumlu çıkarım. Kanıtlar tek bir sonuca işaret ediyorsa must kullanılır: The lights are on and his car is outside; David must be at home. She has studied architecture for six years; she must know a lot about buildings.

  3. Can't: imkânsız

    (2) Can't: neredeyse kesin olumsuz çıkarım, yani imkânsızlık. Kanıtlar bir ihtimali tamamen dışlıyorsa can't kullanılır: That man can't be sixty; he looks thirty. She can't be at home; I've just seen her at the supermarket.

  4. Might, may, could: ihtimal

    (3) Might, may ve could: gerçek bir ihtimal, ama kesin kanıt yok. Why is the train late? There might be a problem with the signals. Don't touch that wire; it could be dangerous. Take an umbrella; it may rain this afternoon.

  5. Yapı

Hepsinin yapısı aynıdır: özne + modal + fiilin yalın hâli. He must be tired, She can't know about it. Şu anda süren bir durum için modal + be + -ing kullanılır: She isn't answering; she must be driving.

Could olasılık bildirir (It could be true), ama olumsuzu couldn't imkânsızlık bildirir (It couldn't be true, yani can't be true ile aynı anlam). Genel bir olasılıktan söz ederken can kullanılabilir (Winters here can be very cold), ama şu anki belirli bir durum hakkında tahminde bulunurken can kullanılmaz.
