Verbs and adjectives with fixed prepositions

Kural

  1. Hazır kalıp olarak öğren

    İngilizcede pek çok fiil, sıfat ve isim belirli bir edatla birlikte kullanılır. Bu kalıplar Türkçeden kelimesi kelimesine çevrilemez; hazır kalıp olarak öğrenilmelidir. Türkçede “tarihe ilgi duymak” yönelme eki alırken İngilizcede interested in denir; ek ile edat arasında birebir karşılık yoktur.

  2. Sıfat + edat

    Sık kullanılan sıfat + edat kalıpları: interested in (I am interested in history), good at ya da bad at (She is good at maths), afraid of (He is afraid of spiders), fond of, proud of (Parents are proud of their children), famous for (Italy is famous for its food), similar to, different from (My opinion is different from yours), excited about, bored with.

  3. Fiil + edat

    Sık kullanılan fiil + edat kalıpları: listen to the radio, wait for the bus, depend on the weather, belong to my uncle, look at the painting, ask for the bill, apologize for the delay, believe in yourself.

  4. Edattan sonra -ing

    Genel bir kural daha vardır: edattan hemen sonra fiil gelirse fiil -ing alır: She is good at swimming, Thank you for helping me.

At A2, the challenge is choosing between similar time frames, pronouns, and quantity patterns.

1. Look for the time clue

Yesterday, now, every day, already, and since often decide the tense.

I watched it yesterday.

2. Choose the pattern first

Pick the whole grammar structure before choosing the final word.

I am going to study.

3. Check word position

Adverbs, objects, and pronouns must sit in natural English order.

I know him well.

Decision path before answering

Use these checks before choosing between close options.

  1. 1Mark the subject, main verb, object, and any connector.
  2. 2Underline the time expression or discourse clue.
  3. 3Reject any option with the wrong agreement, tense, article, pronoun case, or word order.
  4. 4Read the whole sentence once more for naturalness and register.

Contrasts that often decide the answer

Event or background

Simple forms move events forward; continuous forms show an action in progress.

I left while she was talking.

Fact or stance

Modals, hedges, and reporting structures show how certain or responsible the speaker sounds.

This may indicate a problem.

Clause or compressed phrase

Advanced writing often compresses full clauses into participle, noun, or prepositional phrases.

Having reviewed the data, we revised the plan.

İstisnalar

Bazı fiiller Türkçede ek ya da edatla kullanılsa da İngilizcede doğrudan nesne alır: discuss something (discuss about denmez), enter a room, marry someone (marry with denmez), contact someone (contact with denmez). Dikkat: fiil olan marry edat almaz, ama be married kalıbı to alır: She is married to David.
