Les aventures d'Arsène Lupin
Arsène Lupin, gentleman-cambrioleur
Maurice Leblanc
Un voleur brillant traverse salons, trains et coffres avec une politesse dangereuse.
About the book
Maurice Leblanc's first Arsène Lupin collection appeared in 1907, gathering stories first published in a Paris magazine. Lupin is a gentleman burglar: charming, theatrical, a master of disguise, and always one move ahead of Inspector Ganimard. Across nine stories he works on an Atlantic liner, inside a prison, on a night train and in the salons of Paris, and in the last one he crosses paths with an English detective called Herlock Sholmès.
Reading it as a learner
We estimate it at B2. Each story stands on its own, so you can finish one in a few sittings and feel the reward. Leblanc writes quick dialogue marked with dashes, elegant Belle Époque French and plot twists that depend on small details, so careful reading pays off. The ten sections, including the preface, are divided into 52 ten-minute parts. Tap a word whenever a clue hangs on it.
