Türkçedeki “yok” anlamı olumsuz biçimle verilir: There isn't a cloud in the sky, There aren't any clean towels. Soru kurarken be öne geçer: Is there a bank near here? Kısa cevap: Yes, there is. / No, there isn't. Are there any questions? Kısa cevap: Yes, there are. / No, there aren't.
Some ve any
Some olumlu cümlede kullanılır (There are some letters for you); any ise olumsuz ve soru cümlelerinde gelir (There isn't any sugar, Are there any empty seats?).
